This year has been fun but also difficult due to the fact that my blog is about sports. Most sporting events were cancelled halfway through the semester which really drove a wedge into my ability to produce sports content. Therefore, I would have liked to include sit-downs/interviews with athletes from in or outside San Marcos if it weren’t for social distancing laws being enacted. I could have better promoted my blog if I was more willing to put effort into advertising it on social media. I didn’t make much of an attempt to reach out to potential followers and that’s something I will need to work on in the near future. My best experience though during this project was being given a platform to write about what I enjoy. It felt fulfilling to at least feel like I’m a part of the sports journalism community. The experience will benefit me in the future because now I know how to use hashtags to their full advantage to promote content and also now I know what sites are useful tools to create content on. The tools will help me professionally because being a sports journalist means being connected with fans and players and the best way to do that is by being active on social media. After looking at the stats of who visited my site the most, I saw that March was the most popular month for viewing. This was around the time sports was picking up and I guess fans were on the internet more than usual. My most popular post “Life Without Sports” was on March, 29 and garnered the most views out of the rest. I guess a lot of people were missing sports as well due to quarantine and the title grabbed their attention. None of the stats were particularly surprising but I didn’t think March would be my most viewed month as most sports were cancelled at this time later in the month.
